Shahzia Sikander is a Pakistani-born artist. Her works include animation, video, mural, and paintings. She challenges Indo-Persian relationships by combining both Muslim and Hindu religions in her works. She is known to spend months on a piece trying to find the best way to convey her desired message. In her artist statement, she says that, “[Sikander] process-based work is concerned with examining the forces at stake in contested cultural and political histories”. Currently she is working on miniature painting, and is hoping to “inspire many others to examine the miniature [art] tradition”.
